Salesforce Expands AI Capabilities with Waii for Natural Language Data Queries

Salesforce has formally announced its acquisition of Waii, an enterprise-grade natural language to SOQL product.

Waii’s technology converts plain-language questions into production-ready SQL queries, allowing non-technical Salesforce users to understand and analyze data more naturally. The agreement is expected to close in Salesforce’s third fiscal quarter of 2026, subject to the usual closing conditions.

Breaking Down the Acquisition

Many non-technical users in the Salesforce ecosystem rely on the tech staff at their firm to translate data or negotiate fragmented data silos. This frequently involves manual processes that delay workflows and divert the tech team’s attention away from higher-priority tasks.

To address this, the acquisition of Waii intends to democratize data by removing all technological hurdles and empowering all Salesforce users, from CEOs to front-line workers. To interact with their data using natural language cues.

As the company says, “With Waii, we’re not just augmenting our stack; we’re acquiring the catalyst that makes this vision a reality for our customers.”

Waii’s metadata knowledge graph solves this challenge by detailing the links between tables, business metrics, columns, and governance rules, and then using all of this context to translate natural language prompts into extremely accurate SQL queries.

Once the acquisition is completed next year, the major goal will be to integrate Waii’s capabilities into Data Cloud, enabling AI-driven workflows and agentic insights across Salesforce’s other primary services, such as Tableau Next and Agentforce.

Salesforce has stated that Waii’s intuitive graph would “form the foundation” of the Tableau experience, powering its next-generation semantic engine and offering insights that go beyond what a user says while also analyzing what the user truly requires.

Salesforce is well-known for aiming to cement its AI services to customers and making strategic purchases to assist in achieving its long-term goals.

This transaction complements the company’s $8 billion purchase of Informatica and its May acquisition of Convergence.ai. Salesforce’s top goal is Agentforce, and it’s apparent that they’re working on an AI stack that can handle every stage of the data journey.

The agreement is expected to close in Salesforce’s third fiscal quarter of 2026, subject to usual closing conditions.
