Salesforce Announces Definitive Agreement to Acquire Contentful

Salesforce Announces Definitive Agreement to Acquire Contentful

Salesforce acquires Contentful, a composable content startup, for an undisclosed sum.

This purchase, which is Salesforce’s third significant acquisition of the year, will be part of a broader initiative to enhance the way AI agents provide tailored content experiences using data that is both genuinely relevant and adheres to enterprise-grade standards.

Why Did Salesforce Choose Contentful?

Currently, over 4,800 brands use Contentful to manage and provide digital experiences in a variety of industries. SumUp, DocuSign, and KraftHeinz are examples of this.

Customers can produce content with Contentful that can be utilized on a variety of platforms, including email, mobile apps, websites, commerce experiences, and other digital touchpoints. This is especially important because a lot of businesses still handle content in disjointed systems, which means that social, marketing, and content teams, for instance, probably utilize distinct platforms. Salesforce claims that by developing Contentful into an organized content layer within the Salesforce ecosystem, it may assist in resolving this issue.

As a result of this, Contentful will be utilized to “improve Salesforce’s Headless 360 with a native, enterprise-grade content layer that connects customer data with engaging content experiences across Salesforce’s leading application.” In order to “deliver personalized, AI-assembled experiences at scale,” Data 360, Agentforce, and Contentful’s composable AI will work together.

Salesforce and Contentful

What to Expect Moving Forward

Salesforce has confirmed that, following the close of the transaction, Contentful will be integrated natively across Customer 360. From this point, Contentful will be considered a native layer of the platform, which means that Agentforce can access its content architecture.

Agentforce has been the focal point of Salesforce’s AI strategy for the past 18 months. However, if the content that agents rely on is fragmented, out-of-date, or stuck in disjointed systems, they are unable to provide meaningful customer experiences.

Salesforce hopes to provide Agentforce with a more dependable content basis by integrating Contentful into Customer 360. Theoretically, an AI agent may provide more individualized experiences across channels by utilizing approved material, business regulations, and customer context.

How This Acquisition Supports Salesforce’s Vision

Alongside the unveiling of the Agentforce Headless 360 plan earlier this year, several new MCP services were made accessible, and investments were made to enable agents to provide services to users. An enterprise-class rich content layer is a significant new service brought about by the acquisition of Contentful.

In addition to becoming a powerful addition to other Salesforce services, Contentful’s current CMS architecture will demonstrate Salesforce’s growing aspirations to become the industry leader in agentic enterprise.

Last words

Salesforce’s dedication to developing more intelligent, customized, and AI-driven customer experiences is demonstrated by its acquisition of Contentful. Salesforce is enhancing its capacity to provide deeper and more scalable digital interactions by integrating Contentful’s content management features with Agentforce.

Subject to usual regulatory clearances and closing conditions, the purchase is anticipated to close in the third quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027.
