Salesforce Moves to Strengthen Data Power with Informatica Acquisition

Salesforce recently announced an $8 billion acquisition as part of a major push to become a much bigger presence in the corporate arena. Salesforce’s Partnership with Informatica will unite two sizable, well-known enterprise software companies with decades of practical experience.

An early pioneer in the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) field, Informatica was established in 1993 as a provider specializing in enterprise data. Over the past 25 years, Informatica has evolved along with technology cycles, shifting to cloud and SaaS and, more recently, adopting generative AI. The company just revealed a number of new agentic AI products at Informatica World last week, which are intended to enhance enterprise data management and operations.

Salesforce hopes to strengthen its reliable database for agentic AI development by acquiring Informatica. By combining the following, a single architecture will be created that will allow AI agents to function across organizations in a safe, responsible, and large-scale manner:

* Informatica’s Master Data Management (MDM) quality. Privacy, governance, integration, and a comprehensive data catalog.

* Data Cloud, Agentforce, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360 are all part of Salesforce’s platform.

Salesforce paid an incredible $28 billion to acquire Slack Technologies in 2021. For $16 billion, Salesforce purchased the data analytics platform Tableau in 2019. Salesforce strengthened its business software integration capabilities by acquiring MuleSoft in 2018, a year earlier. Salesforce has benefited greatly from each of those acquisitions, as Tableau, Slack, and Mulesoft have all grown and expanded.

How This Acquisition Could Impact Salesforce and Its Enterprise Clients

Salesforce paid an incredible $28 billion to acquire Slack Technologies in 2021. For $16 billion, Salesforce purchased the data analytics platform Tableau in 2019. Salesforce strengthened its business software integration capabilities by acquiring Mulesoft in 2018, a year earlier. Salesforce has benefited greatly from each of those acquisitions, as Tableau, Slack, and Mulesoft have all grown and expanded.

Salesforce’s acquisition of Informatica closes a gap in its data management capabilities, claims Forrester Analyst Noel Yuhanna.

According to Yuhanna, vendor solutions need to firmly combine data and AI as two sides of the same coin in order to completely achieve AI’s potential. He believes that this acquisition enhances Salesforce’s capacity to accomplish that, establishing the foundation for next-generation data that can support AI use cases by enabling intelligent, autonomous, and personalized experiences at scale.

Importantly, this puts Salesforce in a position to provide a unified customer data fabric, allowing for a genuinely end-to-end platform for analytics, AI, and data that is customized for use cases that are focused on the needs of the customer, Yuhanna stated. “This move brings Salesforce much closer to that vision. Real-time data integration across diverse sources is becoming critical for advanced customer engagement.

Why Agentic AI Is at the Core of the Salesforce Informatica Deal

Although Informatica’s technology has always been built on data, Salesforce finds it appealing because of its junction with agentic AI.

The Informatica purchase has been speculated for more than a year, with a reasonable anticipation of a $11 billion bid last year, according to Hyoun Park, CEO and Chief Analyst at Amalgam Insights, who spoke to VentureBeat.

Practically speaking, every significant player in the market must manage data, workflows, integration, and models in addition to the agents and be a solid IT partner in the haste towards agentic AI, according to Park. Salesforce’s efforts to enhance its IT management capabilities and compete with ServiceNow and IT experts like Boomi in the agent sector are closely related to the Informatica purchase.

Park pointed out that there is some overlap with Salesforce’s existing MuleSoft capabilities. Nevertheless, he underlined that Informatica’s data management features, such as master data management, data catalog, and data security, are more extensive and up-to-da

How Enterprise Workflows Could Evolve with This Deal

According to Yuhanna of Forrester, the acquisition represents a significant step forward for Salesforce users. According to him, Salesforce users would have real-time access to and utilization of all forms of customer data, whether stored in external systems or within Salesforce. It stands for a cohesive customer data fabric that can provide insights that can be put to use across all channels and touchpoints.

Crucially, it speeds up Salesforce’s agentic AI deployment, allowing for low-code, low-maintenance AI solutions that drastically cut down on complexity and time to value, according to Yuhanna. Salesforce users can anticipate faster, more creative, and more customized customer experiences at scale thanks to a completely integrated data management foundation.

For Informatica clients, the prospect is just as alluring. According to Yuhana, this acquisition opens us a quicker route to agentic AI workloads, supported by the Salesforce ecosystem’s strength and reach.

Intelligent agents will automate essential tasks as data management advances, transforming time-consuming procedures like pipeline orchestration, integration, and data input into self-operating data workflows. Things that used to take days or weeks will now be completed with little or no human involvement.
